Casa del Sol (house) rental details:
Property location: Casa del Sol is a beautiful, private beachfront home in Playa Los Cocos, in the Mexican state of Nayarit, approximately 150 km (90 miles) north of Puerto Vallarta.  This is approximately two hours plus drive north of Puerto Vallarta.

You are right on the beach; enjoy swimming in the warm ocean waters, walks on the beach or amazing sunsets. This exceptional house has a roof top patio with a million dollar view of the Pacific and awesome sunsets each day. Eat dinner on the roof top patio and enjoy the vista.  The ocean is very clean here with no pollution problems and the air is always fresh and clean with the prevailing winds coming from the Pacific. (Note: There are no jejenes (mexican sand flies) in this area. The house provides a unique escape in a beautiful area and climate. A chance for you to explore and experience the real Mexico.

  • the main floor contains the living area, dining area, kitchen area and a two piece washroom (toilet and sink).

  • the second floor is an open space and is the sleeping area with an adjoining shower room (shower only no toilet or sink). There are two beds, a single and a queen size. The sleeping area on the second floor has a walkout balcony overlooking the ocean.

  • the roof top patio is a special place with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean. There is a table and various chairs there for dining or just for lounging around.

  • a spiral staircase connects all the levels. If your mobility is restricted then perhaps this is not for you.

  • the kitchen has a sink, hot and cold running water, a mini-fridge and a couple of hot plate style burners. Dishes and cutlery is provided. There is not housekeeping provided during the stay. You cook and clean on your own as much or as little as you wish. If you don't want to cook there are many places to eat just down the road 2 or 3 km in the nearby village of Aticama or walk to Casa Manana in Playa los Cocos for the ocean-side outdoor restaurant and bar.

  • bring your own books and reading material, as you will not find English language books or newspapers available in this area

  • the house is very close to the ocean and the windows are open to the sounds of the surf. The ocean sounds can be loud at night. Many people love this but if you think that the ocean sounds may disturb your sleeping, bring ear plugs just in case.

  • there is no telephone landline, bring your own cell phone if you feel the need, just make sure you setup access in Mexico ahead of time with your cellular provider. There is no internet access at the house. There are inexpensive internet cafes in the villages.

  • there is also a cd/radio unit for playing CDs but bring the CDs with you or your portable MP3 player

  • we do not provide transportation around the area for sightseeing or to or from the airport. You would probably be advised to obtain a rental car from the airport, we do provide parking on the property for your vehicle.

  • time zone change - this is important to know for your flight times if you are arriving and departing from Puerto Vallarta; Puerto Vallarta is on Mountain time zone (as it is in the Mexican state of Jalisco) whereas the San Blas area just to the north is on Central time zone (as it is in the Mexican state of Nayarit).

  • please see the photos on this website illustrating the above areas. We want you to be fully informed about this house and its facilities prior to renting it and we want you to arrive here without any surprises so that you may fully enjoy your vacation.

Restaurants and groceries, including an interesting fine fruit, vegetable and seafood market, are nearby in San Blas. San Blas is approximately 16 km (10miles) north of Playa los Cocos. Other food staples can be purchased in the small village stores found in Santa Cruz around 5km (3 miles) to the south or Aticama 2-3 km (1-2 miles) to the north. me and my bike...bike parked in front of local store in the remote village of El Cora, Mexico, high in the mountains extending inland from the Pacific coast. (if you are interested and know cycling, there are two long climbs to get here using gear ratios; 39x21-23-25).

Directions/Attractions:
How to get there directions: Most people fly into Puerto Vallarta and you may rent a car at the airport there for the trip north. There is a good road all the way but you cannot rush, this is Mexico. From Puerto Vallarta drive north on Highway 200 about one hour to Las Varas. Turn left at the sign for San Blas. Entering Zacualpan, turn left just before the town plaza and continue toward San Blas. Follow signs toward San Blas until you come to Playa Los Cocos. After you pass Motel Casa Manana in Playa Los Cocos, the house is on the ocean side of the road about a kilometer further.

There is also frequent bus service available from Puerto Vallarta. The bus station is located almost across the road from the airport terminal and in a block or two from that main road. Take a short taxi ride to it and there are buses that travel the Puerto Vallarta to San Blas route several times per day. The one-way bus trip cost is approximately 100 pesos ($10). The bus route to San Blas goes through Playa los Cocos. Get off and you are here but you have to ask the bus driver to stop and let you off in Playa los Cocos otherwise the bus does not stop. If you get to the small fishing village of Aticama you have gone too far. (Aticama is 2 or 3 km past Playa los Cocos)

Activities and attractions in the San Blas Pacific Coast area:
Playa Los Cocos is at the centre of an area that is being developed for eco-tourism. One of the best bird-watching areas in the Americas is at the Tovara River and mangrove lagoons (10 km away), where boat tours are available. This is the mango capital of
Mexico and there are also papayas, bananas, avocado and pineapple. If you wish to kayak, fish or hike, there are many opportunities, including the beautiful remote El Cora waterfall 16 km south-east of Playa Los Cocos.

Other short day trips can be taken to the colonial city of Tepic (pop 300,000) for fine and inexpensive beadwork from Huichol
artisans. Tepic is inland around 60 km from the coast and it is around a one hour drive through the mountains to get there. Another day trip to Mexcaltitan, the original home of the Aztecs which is known as the “Venice of Mexico.” may prove interesting.
